About Minister Walker

Sherry L. Walker

“Those he called, he predestined; those he predestined, he justified; those he justified, he sanctified”. Romans 8:30
Minister Walker has been a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Christ for twenty plus (20+) years. She serves as the Women’s Ministry leader and is also involved in the Intercessory and Homeless Ministry.

She’s a licentiate minister who was licensed on February 6, 2005 by the late Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Little. She’s an Associate Minister on staff, co- laborer with Rev. Cecilia McFarlane, under the pastorate of Rev. Martha R. Holmes. She received a Phase One Certificate of Completion from Outreach Community Church School of Ministry in 2001.

She serves with a “yes” spirit, a “teachable” spirit, and a “servant” spirit. She loves the Lord with her whole being. Her heart is fixed and her mind is made up to live for the Lord. She’s a praying woman who is humble, faithful, committed and dedicated to her calling. Always desiring and determined to do the will of God no matter what the cost and no matter where. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8

After the devastating murder and untimely death of her 15 year old son to mistaken identity, she has been a victim advocate against gun violence. She’s spoken at many peace rallies & marches, Stand for the Children organization, Evanston Night Out, MOMS Saving Our Sons and at numerous other events against gun violence. She helped organize the Evanston/Skokie North Suburb Chapter of the Bell Campaign (freedom from gun trauma), presently called the Million Mom March Chapter. She was also a volunteer victim impact panel speaker for the Juvenile Probation Division and Court Services of Cook County from its inception 2001 – 2007 until the program was phased out. She continues to reach out to family members and friends of murdered loved ones and survivors of gun violence. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”. (Galatians 6:2).

In her spare time, she writes songs and poetry as inspired by God and the Holy Spirit.

She gives God all the glory for all that He has done in her life, for all He has blessed her with and gifted her with; for she knows without a doubt that she can do nothing without HIM. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths”. Proverbs 3:5-6.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.

She’s blessed to have her younger son, two grandsons and one granddaughter.
