About Rev. Cie
Cecilia McFarlane
Reverend Cecilia McFarlane grew up in Vallejo, California, the only surviving child of the late Henry Louis Anderson and the late Rosa Wingfield Anderson. As a young child she developed a sense of compassion for the ill-treated. These early years laid the foundation for both her life and for her ministry to the hurting.
Raised as a Catholic, she was first baptized as an infant. She chose to be re-baptized as an adult at New Fellowship Baptist Church in Nashua, New Hampshire under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Bertha Perkins. There she headed the Missions Ministry and taught Adult Sunday School.
Rev. Cie, as she is affectionately known, has been a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Christ (BBCC) for over twenty years. She answered the call to ministry under the mentorship of the late Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Little and was ordained at BBCC in September of 1999. As an associate minister, Rev. Cie works alongside the pastor, Rev. Martha R. Holmes and her fellow associate, Minister Sherry Walker. She provides for the needs of the congregation through teaching, praying, preaching, spiritual formation and direction. In particular she is responsible for the Journey to Hope Ministry, a grief support group.
She has provided spiritual care for patients, their families and the hospital employees at Rush Medical Center (RMC), Schwab Rehabilitation and Mt. Sinai Hospitals in Chicago. She served on the advisory committee for Clinical Pastoral Education at RMC. She has published stories in both Chaplaincy Today and the Journal of Pastoral Care and Counseling.
Rev. Cie has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of San Francisco in California and a Masters of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary (GETS) in Evanston. She completed a residency in Pastoral Care accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Reverend McFarlane is married to Noel McFarlane and they are the parents of Jason and Jonathan (Grace Zeigler).
